Tour and Caper Company FAQ...
Amenities...Amenities listed on Caper Company tours are chosen primarily for their convenience. Not all locations suggested have been visited by a Caper Company Researcher. None of the businesses listed have any commercial affiliations with Caper Company. In other words, they didn't pay us to list them. We focus on comfort amenities like coffee or restrooms. Tour routes aren't so lengthy that you need to stop to fuel up your car, so gas stations aren’t usually listed.
Audio Files...Every multi-destination tour includes fve to seven audio files in total: One general welcome for your tour group, an optional one with sensitivity exercises and and three to five stories to listen to in the car as you travel to each destination. They average 6 to 14 minutes in length and are formatted as mp3 files. You will need to be able to listen to these files in your car. If you don't have any way to listen to mp3's in your car and don't have the ability to transfer them to a CD, we can mail you a CD for a small fee.
Bonus Haunt Spots Destinations...Occasionally, Caper Company Researchers will discover a haunted location that doesn’t quite score 100% on our research checklist. If, however, it’s intriguing enough to make an interesting stopover, we may include it in your multi-destination itinerary as a bonus. The specific reasons are spelled out in your tour itinerary along with the option to bypass the bonus or explore it.
Capers...Your Caper is included in every Haunt Spot tour. These are suggested activities to help you explore your destination. They are covered both in the audio story and on the printed itinerary.
Caper Company Researchers...These are intrepid souls who’ve spent full days of their precious time on exhaustive research trips. If you’re interested in becoming a Caper Company Researcher, read more about it here.
Code of Conduct and Disclaimer / Caper Code... We want you and all future Explorers to have a great time on your excursions, so we provide this Code of Conduct and Disclaimers. The code will clarify what you can expect and how to best experience your tour.
No-one from Caper Company is going with you, so it’s up to you to follow this Code. These points are conferred upon all parties involved, including your tour leader, the person(s) who purchased the tour and all parties in the tour group. A copy of the shorter version “Caper Code” is included in the tour instructions that accomany all tour itineraries.
It all boils down to this: Be a Good Citizen, take care of yourself and others and be light of heart. Easy!
Daytime... Yes, you can explore hauntings during the day. If a place is haunted, then the spirit is not only present at night. All destinations on a Haunt Spots tour are accessible during daytime and some are accessible into the night. Destinations with time restrictions are usually placed earlier in your route. This gives you more flexibility in choosing your tour start time.
Exploring at night is a radically different experience than during the day. Some destinations are best seen first during the day or dusk. Guidance is provided on each tour description.
Directions... It’s funny, but sometimes destinations on a Haunt Spots tour aren’t always easy to find. That’s why we provide directions in 3 ways –- an address / nearest address; GPS coordinates; and turn-by-turn directions. Between them all, you’re bound to find your way there.
Explorers... That’s you! Everyone in a Haunt Spots tour party is an Explorer. So, whenever you see that title, it’s most likely describing something for you to do and know.
Itinerary? What’s That?... Your tour itinerary are the actual pages containing details of where you’ll be going on your Haunt Spots Tour. Each tour itinerary includes: The destination name, nearest address, GPS coordinates, turn-by-turn directions, name of your audio track, where to park, guidance on exploring the area, activities (aka Your Caper), nearby amenities and instructions on how to prepare for your tour.
Nearest City? Why do You Ask That?... We need to get you to your first tour destination. Caper Company provides detailed turn-by-turn directions between locations, but we don’t know from where you’re starting. The first page of your tour itinerary provides directions to your first destination from a general and easily accessible location. The idea is that you’ll be familiar with the city you selected and be able to figure out how to get to where our turn-by-turn directions begin.
Outdoors... Most Haunt Spots destinations are outside, so dress for weather and wear walking shoes. Sunscreen and bug spray are always a consideration in Wisconsin.
Photos... Photos in the gallery are primarily from Caper Company research trips. Some of the photos represent locations already featured in a Haunt Spots tour and some are for tours under development. Photos submitted by Explorers are from actual tours. Private Property... Caper Company will never knowingly send you to explore on private property unless we have the owner’s permission. Each destination is visited by a Caper Company Researcher and we’re on the look-out for signs designating the area as private property as well as other considerations that would limit access. If you encounter any notices that conflict with guidance provided on your tour itinerary, this is a significant change from when we visited personally. Please let us know if this happens.
Tour Contents and Routes... The combination of destinations for a Haunt Spots tour are assembled with two basic aims – to provide a variety of destinations to explore and to keep the destinations within a roughly 30 minute drive from each other.
General Ghost FAQ...
Electronic Voice Phenomena... “EVP’s” are disembodied sounds that may be voices or noises made by spirits. EVP’s are not audible to the human ear but may be captured during digital voice sessions in haunted places. Frequently an Explorer or ghost hunter will provoke EVP responses by asking a series of questions.
Residual Hauntings... A residual haunting is like a time specific tape recording. They are imprints of an event that gets played over and over again. The spirit will be active at the specific time of the day that the ‘recording’ plays.
